I drove out to Anza Borrego that night at 3 a.m. to make sure I wouldn’t miss the sunrise. Once it came peeking out from behind the horizon, I knew all of my effort was worth it. The sunrise on that fall morning in 2013 was absolutely spectacular. I saw mist hovering inches above the ground, hanging between the trees. The sun rose up and the air was mild and warm, with only the slightest hint of the nights chill remaining. The mountains stood firm in the distance and there was powdery dust clinging to the air. I ventured out into the middle of this field and I was captured by the scene. I love mornings; they mark the beginning of a new day, both literally and metaphorically. I always feel as though each one represents endless possibility and marks the calm before the impending day’s storm of activity.
